“Teach Them Diligently to Your Children…”

To teach, O’ what a most fearful responsibility for those who are called to do such. And here we are, God Himself is calling for fathers and mothers to teach their children. But is it just fathers and mothers? Is it not grandparents and the elders in the family and community? Of course, it is. We as a people MUST teach our children!

But what does He mean by teach? We have two great masters to “teach” us. Moshe and Yeshua. We are to disciple our children. The Almighty says that you are to “speak of them when you sit in your house or walk along the way. When you lie down and when you rise up.” And this is what the two master teachers did. Their disciples were with them at all times. Always being taught the way in which they were to go. But the most profound tool they used was their public and private practice of ethic and moral excellence. Their humility caused their words to resound in the ears of those who followed them.

What then are we to teach? The words given by God through which we show in action our love for Him and His creation. And these words or things, not law, given to us are the source for the liberation of man. They, if they are exalted as the societal norm, will create a just, prosperous, and free people. They are the principles that formed the ideas of those who created the United States form of government.

But as is glaringly obvious, they are not. These liberating and foundational guides have been trampled and burned by those who are lovers of pleasure rather than good. They believe feelings, desires, and wants, determine what is moral and ethical. They have no true foundation and cannot but spit and revile against those who desire to live in a truly free society. For, as Yeshua said, “you shall know the truth and the truth will set you free.” Freedom is not doing that which we wish or desire to do but rather, doing that which will bring no harm to my fellows, whether it be physical or promulgating immorality.

It is a heart of love and gratitude toward the Creator that is foremost in what our children must learn to bring change and morality back into our homes, communities, States, and ultimately, Union. For if we do, then a respect for others and their property, an acknowledgment of harmful practices being unacceptable, and justice being truly blind,will mend the gaping wounds that have been allowed and they will begin to heal.

But God’s people must remember that it is said, “when my people, called by my name.” We are to pray and seek His face. And must do so while He can still be found. For the day draws nigh in which He will turn away and will turn a deaf ear to us.

As God’s people we must “teach them diligently to our children.” We must “speak of them when we sit in our homes or when we travel, when we lie down and when we rise up.” We are to “write them upon the door post of our house and upon our gates.” They should be such a part of us that we “bind them as a banner upon our hands (what we do, joining these words to our actions), and they shall be for symbols between your eyes (they are to be continually on our mind, as David said “Blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked, or set foot on the path of sinners, or sit in the seat of mockers. But his delight is in the Law of the LORD, and on His law he meditates day and night.”)

Let us return to the old paths, not of technological advancement, but of a moral and liberated people.
